STRIPES
Gesine Marwedel is the artist behind these fascinating portraits. Originally from Germany, she began her artistic career on canvas, initially painting faces after encouragement from her photographer friend, Thomas van de Wall. This led her to body painting, using the supple bodies of her dancer friends as her canvas. She reports that her work can take up to 12 hours to complete.
When discussing her inspiration, she emphasizes that she sometimes can’t pinpoint exactly where her ideas come from. However, when she’s commissioned for her work, it’s usually the client who decides what she’ll paint. Furthermore, she draws inspiration from the scenes and impressions in her environment.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC
This is a tribute to the musical melodies that fill our lives with joy. The theme is music, hence the notes painted on her neck. The earrings are also designed with musical notes made of glittering material. This woman also has snippets of records across her body and in her hair.
Records or vinyl albums were used to record and distribute the music of favorite artists before cassettes and CDs took over. A large musical instrument is also painted on her chest, with keys made of parts applied to her body. We can feel the rhythm in this picture.
